Here’s something new: In June, September, and October, The Bass Cottage Inn is offering Bistro Weekends. The package, including two nights lodging, daily full breakfast (a treat!), and one night’s five-course dinner, ranges $540 to $810 per couple, plus taxes and alcohol, with rate varying by room selected and weekend.
Here’s the menu for the the weekends of June 5-7 and 12-14:
Appetizer: Johnnycakes with smoked salmon or Bass Cottage paté with warm shallot jam and toasted artisan bread
Soup: Creamy double-haddock chowder
Salad: Fresh field greens with house vinaigrette
Entrée: Maine lobster “puff” pot pie or stout-braised short ribs with garlic-mashed potatoes and roasted carrots or coq au vin blanc
Dessert: Cream puffs with vanilla-bean ice cream and chocolate sauce or buttermilk panna cotta with strawberry-rhubarb compote
Menus for the autumn weekends are on the website.
About the inn: In 2003, Terri (a chef) and Jeff Anderholm completely gutted the 1885 inn, salvaging the best features and turning it into a boutique, luxury inn. Unlike many of the island’s oh-so-Victorian accommodations, this one is light and airy, with plentiful and comfy public rooms and all those little necessities of civilization: Wifi, TV/DVD, phone. Many rooms have fireplaces and/or whirlpool baths. It’s well situated for walking to all downtown Bar Harbor attractions, but tucked away on a byway, so the location is quite private. The inn reopens for the season on May 15.
