Five documentary films about recreational canoeing and kayaking will be screened at the 4th Annual Paddlers Film Festival, at the Eastland Park Hotel in Portland, this Thursday, April 28. Doors open at 5 p.m. and screenings begin at 6:30 p.m. Films slated to be screened are Birthright, Finding Farley, This is Canoeing, OLVM 36, and Wild Water. Topics covered include discovering whitewater kayak waterfall runs, a family’s cross-Canada canoe journey, and a quadriplegic who doesn’t let his disability get in the way of catching the perfect wave.
This is a great opportunity to connect with fellow paddlers and perhaps start planning your spring and summer adventures: Maybe the Allagash or island-camping along the coast?
Proceeds benefit the Northern Forest Canoe Trail (NFCT) and the Maine Island Trail Association (MITA). Also planned is a silent auction to benefit MITA. Items up for bid include kayak trips and weekend getaways. Tickets are $12 in advance or $15 at the door.
