This you’ve got to see: As part of its 100th anniversary celebration, L.L. Bean will attempt to get 100 employees into a nearly 500-foot-long modular kayak in an attempt for a Guinness World Record as part of its annual PaddleSports Weekend, June 1-3, 2012. The attempt will be made on at 11 a.m. on Sat. June 2 at the L.L. Bean Paddling Center on Lower Flying Point Road. There will be free shuttles from the flagship store downtown.
That’s not the only reason to check out this special weekend:
Free activities during the weekend include an ocean-side cookout, boat testing (kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, canoes), live music, and craft activities for children.
Fee programs include 90-minute kayak tours of Casco Bay ($35); an Intro to Stand-up Paddleboarding course ($29); and Kayaking Discovery Courses ($20). Plan ahead and reserve a place if you’re interested in these, as space is limited.
