My favorite is Red’s Eats in Wiscasset. Best lobster roll ever!

Many times from the time I was a baby traveling to Eastport to visit my Grandparents have I traveled up Route 1. Several of those places you listed to eat just jumped out at me. I remember Red’s Eats in Wiscasset and remember many times we stopped at Moody’s. One place that was not there was a surprise to me was Helen’s Restaurant. We never went through Machias without stopping for at least pie and coffee or milk in my case. Has Helen’s closed? I have not been up that way since I moved to Florida in 2007. I did go up to Eastport in May of 2007 for a family reunion. I do not remember if I saw Helen’s then or not. Thank you for all the sweet memories of my childhood. I always enjoy reading the stories.

    Hi,

Thanks for this update on RT. 1 eats! I live in Belfast but I don’t get up to Machias every year so it’s good to know what’s new (or new to me) along route 1 that I haven’t been to. I have a group of friends that are all up for Food Road Trips to places we have heard or read about around the state. I thought a selection of the eateries in this article, from Belfast up to Machias, would make a good basis of the first road trip. Thanks, and any other suggestions would be most welcome!
