National Chocolate Week? Who knew?

chocolate-marchIn celebration of the occasion, the Historic Inns of Rockland welcomes confirmed and neophyte chocoholics to its annual Chocolate March on March 14. The four participating inns (Captain Lindsey House, Granite Inn, Berry Manor Inn, and LimeRock Inn) as well as more than 20 local businesses are painting the Mid-coast Maine town chocolate brown.

Start with a chocolate breakfast item, add tastings, recipes, and chocolate treats at area restaurants and businesses. Have a chocolate-tini at the Boathouse Restaurant, Willy Wonka’s chocolate reuben at Cafe Miranda, chocolate skin tonics at The Skin Clinic, even arrange for a chocolate massage at Synergy. Slide into evening at the Wine Seller’s Wine and Chocolate Pairing, featuring ports, sherries, and wines paired with Black Dinah Chocolatiers chocolates (alone worth going for!). And much, much more. All Aboard’s chocolate express trolley will ferry folks between stops on the chocolate trail.

Go for the day ($20 pp, tickets limited, make reservations); better yet, make it a weekend. Two-night packages at the participating inns include daily breakfast with chocolate treats, tickets for the Chocolate March, two dessert vouchers for a local restaurant, chocolate goodie bag, chocolate coffee from Rock City Roasters, cookbook with chocolate recipes, a special sea scene chocolate from Safe Harbor Confections (great company, with percentage of income donated to animal-related causes), two tickets to Amalfi on the Water’s Sunday jazz brunch, and a commemorative poster. Package rates range from $315-$605 per couple. UPDATE: This event is no longer offered.
