Spring’s here, and it’s time to start planning your spring/summer/fall visits to Maine. Here are two deals to help ease the budget: The Maine Innkeepers Association’s annual Habitat for Humanity program and a three-night package at the Bass Cottage Inn, including a dinner at its 10 Tables fine dining restaurant.
The Bass Cottage Inn is hidden in a quiet pocket just off Main Street in downtown Bar Harbor, on Mount Desert Island home to the largest chunk of spectacular Acadia National Park. Last summer it debuted 10 Tables, an intimate restaurant open for dinner by reservation. This season it’s offering a three-night package that includes: lodging, chilled bottle of champagne upon arrival, fresh flowers, daily full breakfast, and a three-course dinner (not including wine, beer, or gratuity). Per person/double occupancy rates are $550 off season to $620 high season for a king room; $375-$450 for a queen room. The inn opens Friday, May 18, for the season, when 10 Tables will be one of only four Bar Harbor restaurants participating in the Chef’s Table event, part of the annual Taste of Bar Harbor. Maine Innkeepers Association Habitat for Humanity program
As I’ve said in other years, I love this program, which gives travelers a great deal on Maine lodging—B&Bs, inns, hotels, even resorts—in some very desirable locations along the Maine coast. Even better, it helps support local chapters of Habitat for Humanity.
Here’s the deal: Between April 23 and May 25, 2012, about 30 accommodations are offering a limited number of rooms at half price in exchange for a $35 check payable to Habitat for Humanity. Reservations must be made in advance, and the contribution to Habitat for Humanity must be in the form of a check. Book now, this is a very popular deal and rooms go quickly. Monies raised are distributed among 10 local chapters of Habitat for Humanity, which builds houses for local working families who could not otherwise afford them.
