Memorial Day weekend is a fitting time to pay tribute to Andrew Wyeth, and the Farnsworth Art Museum is doing just that. A Memorial Day Celebration of the Life and Work of Andrew Wyeth, comprising an exhibit and special events, is slated at the Rockland museum May 22-25, 2009.

“This series of events recognizes and honors Andy’s lifelong contributions to American art, especially his deep attachment to the people and scenic character of midcoast Maine,” said Michael K. Komanecky, Interim Director and Chief Curator of the museum.

The Farnsworth began its relationship with Wyeth in 1944, when it purchased watercolors at a gallery show in New York. In 1951, in conjunction with New Hampshire’s Currier, the Farnsworth mounted Wyeth’s first solo museum retrospective.
