Head downeast this weekend for the Two Countries, One Bay Studio Tour


Grab your passport and spend this  weekend on the Two Countries, One Bay Studio Tour. The free, self-guided tour this Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 18-19, 2010, visits the working studios of more than 50 of the best visual artists and craftspeople in eastern Maine and southwestern New Brunswick, Canada, including the Fundy Islands of Campobello and Deer Island.

Arm yourself with a free tour map (download from the web site or pick up a copy locally), then mosey the region’s highways and byways, connecting studios/towns/countries via bridges and ferries. Your ports of call may include Lubec,  Eastport, and Calais, Maine, along with St. Stephen, St. Andrews, and St. George/Blacks Harbour, N.B., Canada.

Complementing the tour is “Cross Border Artist Exchange at the Tides Institute and Museum of Art, in Eastport. The Sept. 18-22 exchange includes  artists/master printers Herménégilde Chiasson (New Brunswick) Charlie Hewitt (Maine); Christian Le Poul (Quebec); David Umholtz (New Brunswick); and David Wolfe (Maine). Hemmings House Pictures, of Saint John, N.B., is making a short documentary film of the exchange.
