This weekend, Feb. 15-18, 2013, is Great Maine Outdoor Weekend with plentiful organized opportunities for outdoor fun statewide. You can search the website by date, type of activity, and location to find one that meets your needs, from Houlton’s family oriented Moosetompers Weekend (skating, sled-dog rides, XC skiing, sledding, snowman making) to a guided sea-kayaking trip (brrrr) on the Deer Isle peninsula (experienced paddlers only), from a snowshoe or hike on the Corea Heath Preserve to animal tracking at Aldermere Farm. Check out the listings, bundle up, and enjoy winter.
And speaking of winter fun: This Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, is the Ski Museum of Maine’s 6th annual Maine Ski Heritage Classic at Sugarloaf. From 10:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m., check out an exhibit of ski memorabilia in the base lodge. Wear your best retro outfit and bring along a classic pair of skis, and join in a group vintage ski and clothing photo at 3 p.m. A public reception, live and silent auctions, and ski museum display are slated from 4-6:30 p.m., with a $10 recommended donation to cover light appetizers; there will be a cash bar.
