Ring in the new year at the Capt. Daniel Stone Inn

Champagne. Local artisan cheeses. Maine oysters. Lobster. The newish No. 10 Restaurant in Brunswick’s beautifully renovated Captain Daniel Stone Inn is bidding adieu to 2010 in fine style, with a five-course New Year’s Eve Wine Tasting Dinner.

Guests gather at 6:30 p.m. for sparkling wine along with Maine artisan cheeses. Then the real fun begins, with Chef Troy Mains menu:

• Maine Winter Point Oysters paired with King Estate Acrobat Pinot Gris

• Crisp Duck Breast Salad paired with Bridlewood Viognier

• Lobster Cocktail paired with La Marouette Rosé

• Cold River Vodka Lemon Sorbet Intermezzo

• Peppered Roasted Beef Tenderloin paired with David Bruce Petite Syrah

• House-made Chocolate Caramel Tart paired with Quady Elysium, a Black Muscat dessert wine.

The dinner, limited to 100 guests, costs $65 per person, plus tax and grat. Reservations are required.

…then call it a night

And since this is New  Year’s Eve and you’ll be drinking, why not make a night of it? An overnight package, including a room for two and reservations for the dinner for two, along with a plate of cookies and petit fours, and continental breakfast the next mornig is $250 (plus tax and grat). I’ve toured the inn’s rooms, and they’re handsomely decorated and furnished with fine linens and towels. Other amenities include an indoor hot tub, sauna, and a fitness room, so you can even work off the calories (or the hangover).

Why I like this package: For starters, it offers a good value–a fie-course menu crafted by one of Maine’s up-and-coming chefs paired with wine for $65 pp is a deal alone, but with the room and breakfast, it’s practically a steal. This is a lovely inn that’s struggling to make a comeback after years of neglect under previous owners. It deserves your attention.

  1. In the above article by Hilary Nangle dated 12- 23 -2010 ,she states that the Inn is “bidding adieu to 2010 in fine style…” not 2012
Is the menu, I am reading for 2010 or 2012?
I have made reservations there for 8 of us to ring in the New Year and hopefully, it will be for 2012

    P. S. A free round of drinks for us for relaying this info. might be nice
    What do you think?

  2. Hi Jerry,

The date on that post is Dec. 23, 201 (look just under the title). The inn’s gone through some rough times since then. I don’t know who the chef is now, so I can’t give you any info. If you booked your reservations based on that post, you might want to reconsider. Then again, maybe it will be a wonderful experience. Wish I could tell you more.
