If you’re a fan of the TV show Survivor, the name Bob Crowley is familiar to you. Survivor Bob is the oldest winner of the CBS show, which he won in December 2008. He’s also the sole Maine winner to date and the first teacher to win. July 5-8, 2011, he’s sharing his knowledge, skills, and tales during a special Survivor Bob Camp at Saddleback, in Rangeley, Maine.
The four-day camp is open to anyone age 10 or older is able to walk in the woods for a few hours shouldering a 10- to 20-pound pack. Participants will learn techniques for such necessary wildereness skills as fire-building, campfire cooking, food gathering, shelter building, and navigation.
The $500 per person fee includes the day program, camping on the final night in a shelter you build, daily lunch, one dinner, and one breakfast. Lodging the first two nights is on your own, but there are rental condos on the mountain and plentiful cabins, inns, motels, and B&Bs in Rangeley. Or book a campsite at Rangeley Lake State Park and practice your new skills.
