Cheap Sleeps: Budget Lodging

Watch lobster boats unload their catches from The inn at the Wharf, in Lubec, Maine. Hilary Nangle photo. Looking for cheap sleeps? Want a place to rest your head that won't bust the budget? Yes, it is possible to find budget lodging on the Maine Coast that's cheap, relatively speaking, and has character. Some are even waterfront. If you're used to five-star lodgings, these won't cut it; many wouldn't earn even two. But all are clean and pass my sniff test. Each has peak-season rooms (not every room, mind you, but at least a few) that go for less than $155 per night, some considerably less. (And yes, I've had to increase that base amount as prices jumped during the pandemic, and I don't expect them to come down). Remember, shoulder and off-season rates are usually far more reasonable than peak-season ones. I'm devoting a separate page to my cheap sleeps for each region, and I'll add to it (or delete) as necessary. Check it out; you might find you want to check right in: • Southern Coast • Greater Portland  • Mid Coast • Penobscot Bay • Acadia • Down East • Western Lakes & Mountains
